No matter how much we plan or prepare, we can never fully control the events in our lives.
And that’s why we sometimes have to make incredibly tough decisions.
When 36-year-old Christina Fisher from Florida found out she was pregnant, the timing couldn’t have been worse.
She was unemployed, facing eviction from the trailer park where she lived, and knew it wouldn’t be easy to provide her child with a fair shot at success in life.
With a heavy heart, Christina made the difficult choice to put her baby up for adoption.
But when her daughter Abigail was born, everything changed. The family that had promised to adopt the newborn suddenly had a change of heart. As soon as they saw Abigail’s face, they turned around and left the hospital.
Christina recalled that all her ultrasounds showed her baby developing normally, so it was a shock when Abigail Lynn was born in January 2016.
As soon as Christina and the doctors saw Abigail, they realized she looked different from the other babies in the maternity ward.
Abigail was diagnosed with Treacher Collins syndrome, a rare genetic condition that causes facial asymmetry and can also affect respiratory and eye functions.
Despite the diagnosis, Christina felt nothing but love for her daughter — she thought Abigail was incredibly beautiful.
And who could disagree?
Unfortunately, the adoptive family did, as reported by The Telegraph.
The family had arrived at the hospital to support Christina during labor, but after the birth, the situation took a sudden turn.
When the adoptive mother saw Abigail’s face, all her friendly gestures and warm smiles disappeared.
“She came out crying… and left the hospital. We never heard from them again,” Christina said.
Christina took this unexpected turn of events as a sign. She canceled the adoption plans and decided to raise Abigail on her own.
She reached out to a photographer to capture some beautiful photos of her and her daughter.
Christina was so moved by the photos that she decided to share them online, along with Abigail’s remarkable story.
She also set up a GoFundMe campaign, which raised nearly $22,000 from almost 600 people — funds that will help Christina provide her daughter with a solid start in life.
It’s incredible what we can achieve when we come together and refuse to give up on a child just because they have a condition or look different.
It seems that fate had other plans, and perhaps it was meant for Christina to keep her child. The decision to give up a child for adoption is one no parent ever wants to make.
