Simon Fisher-Becker, an actor who portrayed one of the Hogwarts ghosts in the first Harry Potter movie, has died. He was 63.

Fisher-Becker’s husband, Tony, announced his death in a Facebook post uploaded on Sunday, March 9. “Hello everyone. This is Tony, Simon’s husband. I have some very sad news. At 2:50 this afternoon Simon passed away,” he wrote. “I’ll be keeping this account open for a while. I’m not sure at this point if I’ll be posting again. Thank you.”

Fisher-Becker’s cause of death has not yet been revealed. The actor’s manager, Kim Barry, also confirmed his death to multiple outlets and said in a statement, “Today I lost not only a client in Simon Fisher-Becker, but a close personal friend of 15 years standing.”

“I shall never forget the phone call I made to him when he was offered the part of Dorium Moldovar in BBC’s Doctor Who. Simon was also a writer, a raconteur and a great public speaker. He helped me out enormously and was kind, gracious and interested in everyone. My condolences go to his husband Tony, his brother, nieces and nephews and his legion of fans,” Barry continued.

Fisher-Becker is credited with 48 acting roles dating back to 1990; he first appeared in an episode of the series ScreenPlay Firsts. Movie fans may best recognize Fisher-Becker as the ghostly Fat Friar in 2001’s Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone; the character appears among a number of Hogwarts’ resident ghosts upon Harry Potter’s (Daniel Radcliffe) first arrival at the school.

Aside from his appearance in the first Harry Potter film, Fisher-Becker is also known for portraying the Doctor Who character Dorium Maldovar in several episodes of the iconic British science fiction series and related media. Fisher-Becker also notably appeared in 2012’s Les MisĂ©rables as part of the ensemble of actors for the number “Master of the House.”
